Awards

Nominations must include a Nomination Letter or Self-nomination Statement. Except for the recipients of the Supervisory Excellence award, all nominees must be members of HECMA to receive this award. Nominations materials may include up to 2 additional documents or artifacts that provide additional evidence of the candidate’s performance and/or experience while in their role. Please see the rubric for each award to assist in the nomination process. 

Examples of artifacts can include but are not limited to letters of recommendation, resumes, presentations, publications, self-reflections, portfolios, websites, blogs, etc. Submitting additional materials is not required, however, all information must be submitted together. 

Awards will be reviewed and selected by the members of the committees for Non-Clinical Case Management and Clinical Case Management, as well as the Past-President. Any questions regarding the awards can be sent to nonclinicalcm@hecma.org.

HECMA Leadership Award

The HECMA Leadership Award was established to honor an individual whose professional accomplishments have made a significant impact on the field of case management in higher education and whose character and work products have earned the respect and admiration of their professional colleagues. 

The recipient of the Leadership Award will be an individual whose contributions and exceptional dedication have provided a positive vision for the future of case management in higher education. This award recognizes the qualities of the recipient that have contributed to developing others in the field as well as the person’s continued commitment to shaping and improving case management in higher education.

Outstanding Clinical Case Manager

This award recognizes a professional who has demonstrated excellence serving as a clinical case manager role at an institution of higher education. Candidates for this award should be full-time employees and assigned primary responsibility in clinical case management, maintain licensure in their state, perform clinical duties, and be a current member of HECMA.

Outstanding New Professional

This award is intended to recognize a new professional (0 yrs to 5yrs) in the field of case management in higher education who has demonstrated excellence in the past year. Candidates for this award should be full-time employees and assigned primary responsibility in case management or student support, be a current member of HECMA, and have 5 years or fewer years of full-time case management experience.

Outstanding Mid-Level Professional

This award is intended to recognize a mid-level professional who has demonstrated excellence in the past year. Candidates for this award should demonstrate outstanding commitment to the case management profession, support, encouragement, mentorship of colleagues, and effective advocacy and representation of case management. Candidates for this award should be full-time employees and assigned primary responsibility in case management, be a current member of HECMA, and have five or more years of full-time case management experience.

Creative Collaboration: Institutional Impact Award

This award is intended to recognize an institution (a person or team of people) that has implemented an outstanding and innovative practice or program related to higher education case management in the past year. Programs for nomination include but are not limited to, a specific initiative, assessment process, or outreach campaign. The program/practice must feature a creative collaboration with a different campus department/unit, separate institution, or community-based service. The program must have been shown to have a significant evidence-based impact on the institution. Examples include but not limited to would be data on an increased number of referrals, increased percentage of persistence from one year to the next, or a decrease in the average number of students who withdrew or got failing grades.

Commitment to Equity & Inclusion Award

This award was established in 2019 within the inaugural year of the HECMA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to recognize the groundbreaking work an individual and/or department have committed to equitable and inclusive case management practices. Candidates for this award should be full-time employees who serve in a direct case management or managerial role and be current members of HECMA. Nominees should demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the creation, implementation, and/or advocacy of innovatively inclusive practices within their role(s). The nominees should have advanced the support and advocacy provided regarding intersectional identities within their own institutions.

Supervisory Excellence

This award recognizes someone who has shown unwavering support of case management at their institution through dedicated efforts including, but not limited to, the expansion of programming and the development of staff. Candidates for this award should be full-time employees who oversee  clinical and/or nonclinical  case management as part of their job responsibilities.  Candidates are not required to be members of HECMA, nor are they required to serve as a case manager as their primary responsibility.
